My Legacy
Holding a 5th generation photo of women in my family
Ministry isn’t just something I feel in my heart; it’s a part of who I am. Growing up, my great-grandmother, Betty Summitt, dedicated her life to helping others, sparking a similar calling in me that I never expected.
When my grandmother, Toni Long, took on the role of the second director, she opened my eyes to a new perspective. She faced challenging situations with incredible poise, and her deep faith in her guidance inspired me to reflect on the leader I aspire to become.
Losing her shook our family deeply, but my mom, Julie Pettus, stepped up as executive director with incredible resolve. Eventually, she chose to serve rather than lead, inspiring me even further.
In that moment, everything I experienced—my challenges, education, and years of service—came into focus. In 2018, I became the fourth-generation executive director of this amazing ministry, a purpose I never imagined. Over more than 30 years, I’ve witnessed God’s profound impact, with the past few years being incredibly transformative.
This role is not just a job; it’s my life, my passion, and my legacy. The clients, volunteers, donors, and partners have become my family, and I am deeply committed to serving our community. I am truly grateful for this opportunity.
As I look ahead, I eagerly anticipate the possibilities that 2025 will bring, thankful to be part of something so meaningful and transformative in the community that we cherish.
