Not a Burden
No matter what she tried, nothing seemed to work. Mona's marriage had fallen apart. The mortgage was more than she could afford. All of the bills were overdue, and her youngest son was diagnosed with RSV. The day Mona and her son arrived home from the hospital, she found that her gas had been turned off.
Not sure where to turn, Mona contacted the Dallas Christian Ministry. She had received help before through our Christmas Assistance Program and knew we would at least be willing to guide her on what to do. "A nice lady called me back to ask me a few questions," Mona said. "She made me feel a lot better about asking for help. I have never been in this situation before." Mona, like so many others, felt like a failure when she first spoke to us. "She made me feel like I was a priority, not a burden."
The Dallas Christian Ministry assisted Mona by getting her gas reconnected with funds designated for heating assistance for low-income households. This was a relief for Mona. It allowed her to focus on caring for her son and keeping her family warm.
